Emily holds graduate degrees and a Ph.D in Child Development and Education from Iowa State University. Emily is close to having her MS in Linguistics. She currently runs her own papercraft business. She has taught children and adults for over 20 years in addition to participating in numerous art shows. She loves seeing others spark their creativity with various art mediums. In her classes this year, she will focus on elements of art, famous artists from around the world across multiple time periods, while encouraging individual creativity and artful expression.

MONICA SAWALL- MUSIC/ CHOIR- CLASSES MEET ON TUESDAYS

CHORAL MUSIC TEACHER

Monica holds a bachelor’s degree in music education from WSU and enjoyed teaching music for over ten years in public schools in Wichita, New York, and Wisconsin. She has also taught vocal and drama classes with Christian Youth Theater, served as children's choir director at her church, and has taught private piano lessons for many years. Monica loves working with all types of learners to build vocal confidence and foster a greater appreciation and enjoyment of music!

Choral Music Class (Age 12-18): Students will learn proper vocal technique (including pitch, tone-quality, resonance and breath control) as well as build other music skills such as rhythm and pitch reading, basic music theory, and singing in two-part harmony.

*Special note: adolescent males with changing voices can learn how to enjoy singing through this stage in life, so you are encouraged to come join us!

*Choral Music- Fall Semester ends with an informal mini-performance for parents during class time.....Spring Semester ends with a formal evening concert

Elementary Music (Age 5-7/Age 8-11): This fun and engaging class will explore the musical concepts of pitch, rhythm, tone color, dynamics, meter, tempo, form, and texture. Students will learn by listening and analyzing, moving, playing instruments, and singing. Our musical repertoire will be comprised of folk songs, hymns, and other pieces written specifically for children. Various composer studies will also be included along the way. Our goal is to build students' God-given music skills as well as foster joy and appreciation for music that will last a lifetime.

ARIEL SCHRAG- ART

Ariel has been working with kids for almost 20 years. She is a homeschool mom of 5 girls. Ariel enjoys painting on canvas and she also enjoys decorating cakes. She taught some art classes last year and is excited about teaching art again this year.

REBEKAH STRICKBINE ART/ SPANISH

ART/ SPANISH TEACHER

Rebekah holds a bachelors degree in Art from Newman University. She pursued internships in college to gain practical experience in her field, graduating with 3.5 years of corporate graphic design experience. Rebekah currently runs her own art and graphic design business, and has a passion for teaching. At church, Rebekah has led small groups and games while mentoring students in various capacities. She is truly excited about all things art and looks forward to sharing that excitement with her students.

Rebekah has studied Spanish for both high school and college credit, as well as using the language as needed in day-to-day life. The goal of this class is to teach students the basics of grammar and sentence structure in Spanish, as well as building everyday, practical vocabulary that students can use from day one. Rebekah has found that even a basic level of practical Spanish can open many doors in life, and she is excited to equip her students with these skills.
